Of Crowds, Crafts, and Culture

Category : Musings

Decided to check out the local Hobby Lobby yesterday, during its grand opening week. After scoring the last open parking space, making my way through crowded aisles, and settling on a pair of cheap tiki torches, I found myself in a checkout line with probably one third of the county’s population. The tattooed man in front of me with his wife had short, slicked back hair and gauged ears, was carrying a gun, and purchased a printed copy of the declaration of independence. I felt I was witnessing something of great cultural significance, maybe on par with a WWE wrestling event that I saw at the flea market in an un-named mountain community years ago. I don’t do crowds well.
