Cut Out Cookies

1 cup butter

1 cup sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour



In a mixer bowl beat butter or margarine with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar and beat till fluffy. Add milk and vanilla; beat well. Gradually beat i flour till well mixed.

Divide dough into four parts. Wrap each part in clear plastic wrap. Chill i the refrigerator of r1 to 2 hours or till firm enough to roll out.

Remove 1 piece of dough from refrigerator and unwrap. On a lightly floured surface roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Use floured cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes. Place onto engrossed cookie sheet. Decorate as desired. Repeat cutting and decorating with remaining dough.

Bake in 375 oven about 8 minutes or till edges are light brown. Cool about 1 minute before removing to a wire rack; cool. Makes 36 to 48 cookies.

*If you are making jelly teacakes, use this recipe as the cookie base. Cut a hole in the center of half of the cookies. After baking, sandwich jelly of your choice between two cookies (using one with a hole for the top).
